What is a paint Correction?

What is Paint Correction and Why is it Important?

A paint Correction is a process that removes an extremely fine layer of clear coat on your paint, this procedure will flatten the surface of your paint. Taking out minor scratches, swirl marks, marring, blemishes and hazing marks, using the highest-quality cutting and polishing compounds, that is specifically designed for your paint surface. If done correctly, you can expect to achieve the ultimate shine and glossy look to your paint work.

Proper Preparation: The Key to a Flawless Finish

There are some very important steps to take when doing a paint correction, like prepping the surface of the paint first. This procedure involves doing the correct rinse follow by the correct hand washing process and applying the right techniques, using a PH neutral shampoo to effortlessly loosen the dirt, without touching your paint work too much, to avoid creating new scratches. Follow by a clay bar treatment, removing any contamination like oxidation, industrial fallout, rail dust and brake dust.

Machine Polishing: A Critical Step That Requires Precision

Once the surface is perfectly clean, it is then buffed with our Cutting-edge industry machine polisher using high quality pads and cutting compounds to remove defects. This step requires the right experience using the right techniques, if not done correctly with the wrong hands can result in a paint burn and a respray because the clear coat has been removed too much. This is cause by using aggressive wool pad or a foam pad that is too coarse for the paint work and applying to much pressure and speed on a very powerful rotary machine polisher.

Soft vs Hard Clear Coats: Understanding Different Paint Types

Polishing is the finishing and final step this process; happens once the defects has been removed knowing as the 2-step process. Many Australian and Japanese made vehicles have soft clear coats, which means it requires less aggressive methods to prefect because the clear coat makes it easier to remove defects. While many European vehicles have more scratch-resistant clear coats because of their manufacturing process in recent years they add ceramic particles into their clear coats, which makes them extremely hard surfaces.

Why Many Cut and Polish Jobs Fall Short

Some mobile car detailers skip this crucial finishing step out of the Cut and polish, which can result in an uneven surface. At Sovi’s car detailing we follow a well-structured process to make sure that this doesn’t happen.
